Album: Chimera - 1971 BMW 2800 CS - Dedicated Track Car

So BMW made around 9000 of these in the late 60's to early 70's. Only around 1200 of them made it to the US. I've got one I'm putting on the track. I need to keep it road legal just to get from home to each event until I can afford a trailer to pull it on, but I'll just keep an extra set of tires for the street. It's got a 2.8L straight 6 engine with an automatic. I'm dropping in a 5 speed and a limited slip diff. I'll see about grabbing a nice engine that I can build up with performance parts from scratch and then drop that in later. I look forward to getting out on the track though. Pics will come soon. -=- (Update 3/29/2007) I've managed to do a bit of cleanup on the car and found several areas where I'm going to have to have the body rebuilt. I've ordered a fair number of parts like a fuel cell, electronic ignition, seat belts and other nick nacks. I'm going to put some serious time in the car this summer though and make sure I'm ready to race by December.

Highlight for Album: Rummy - Future Track Car
Album: Rummy - Future Track Car

Rummy is a car that I am taking a partial ownership role in. Shad got the car for a bottle of Rum and was going to turn it into a daily driver. He's gotten a different car that he likes quite a bit as a daily driver, so he was going to gut it and part it out. I convinced him to let me turn it into another track car for friends/family to use and he agreed. Here is how Rummy looks after arriving at my house. Missing are: Seats, Steering Wheel, Transmission, Engine, Driveline, Radiator, and grill. Everything else appears to be there, but basic maintenance items I'm sure will have to be dealt with. Brake pads/shoes, diff oil, steering box oil, etc. Oh, and a paint job is probably in order.

Album: Travel along Hwy 1

On the way back from Monterey this weekend, I decided to take the Hwy 1 route back along the coast. I cut over at Hwy 84 and had wished I had stayed on 1 longer, but it was still a great drive and the car felt great. It was a nice trip back.

So Baduda was the 2002 that some friends of mine ran at the 24 hours of Lemons in Livermore, CA. It's an endurance race with some special rules regarding the type of car you can enter. You can read more about the 24 hours of Lemons at http://www.24hoursoflemons.com.

Here is my new 1998 Blue 740iL. It rides incredibly smoothly. I am so comfortable in this car. It has a navigation system, full leather, the sunshade in the back, soooo many nice features.

Album: Death of my 525i

Well. I was actually getting really close to trading her in. I enjoyed this car while I owned it, but there was some routine maintenance coming up on it that I didn't want to pay for. I figured I might as well trade it in for something newer with fewer miles on it. I was actually on my way to buy a 1998 740il with everything I wanted on it, and a LOT fewer miles than my 525i when a woman rear ended me. In order to avoid hitting the small car in front of me that had some small children in it, I opted to turn up onto the median. Good thing too because I had to stand on the breaks to stop. So, here she is. The rear tire is stuck against the frame of the car. The trunk is crushed. The drivers seat? Well, broken.

Album: My New Car - That is now smashed

So after I wrecked my Honda, I needed a new vehicle. I had gone through 4 Hondas and loved them all. They were all great cars for me. I decided I wanted something a little more comfy though this time around, yet also sportier. I was looking at BMW 5 series, and 7 series, as well as Mercedes SELs and SECs. I ended up purchasing this 1995 BMW 525i Sedan. It has 113k Miles on it, but the engine is still incredibly strong. ABS, 4 wheel disc breaks, power seats, power windows, sunroof. I am really enjoying it right now. A part of me still wishes I got the 740il I was looking at, but I think the 8 cyl engine would have killed me on gas. I'll drive this for a while and if I still have that itch for a 7 series in 9 months or so, I'll trade up perhaps. Until then, this is my ride. oO [][] Oo

Highlight for Album: 1993 Honda Accord EX 4 Door
Album: 1993 Honda Accord EX 4 Door

I bought this car in 1998 when it had 34k miles on it. I managed to get it from a dealership for only 10k. There was a key mark on the hood I didn't notice until weeks later (methinks because it had been buffed with colored wax or something) but this car has been a great car for me and I am glad I bought it. It was the first time I went out and bought exactly what I wanted instead of just what I could afford. Sadly, I crashed it yesterday when I hit a slippery patch of road in Oakland during a rainstorm. You never realize how much water is on the ground until you actually stop in the middle of the road and put your foot in it. Stepping out of my car after the accident, I found my foot soaked with water. The car now has 127k miles on it, and I'm really sad to see it die like this, but it's quite obvious that it's going to be delcared a total loss by the insurance company. IMO, it was only halfway through it's life. When the tow truck showed up, they were followed by a news crew collecting stories about the wet roads. So this is an "As Seen on TV" issue. My car and an interview with me were aired on TV describing the accident. A few min of footage my car being loaded on a flatbed occupied a few min of airtime.

Highlight for Album: A TR6 I might buy.
Album: A TR6 I might buy.

So I'm looking at buying a car to take down to Laguna Seca for their open track days with HSR west. I kinda have my mind set on a Triumph TR6 because I've always liked the damned things and they apeal to the young kid side of me. I found this one on craigslist and am contemplating the purchase. I believe it's worth something, but not quite the 2300 he's got it listed for on CL and not the 2600 he's got it listed for sitting in the lot of this high school. So in the end I did NOT buy this car. Reason being is because when I pointed out the front right of the car had been in an accident, he didn't seem to know anything about it, yet when he handed me the title, it was a Salvage title and sudden he knew lots about it. Things got really shady really fast and I decided against getting the car. There was also a shimmy I noticed in the left rear tire when I was following him to the tire shop that I hadn't noticed before. Glad I didn't get it in the end.
